Our Programs

JD Farming Horse Rescue operates hands-on programs focused on rescuing at-risk horses, supporting their recovery, and educating the community to improve long-term equine welfare. Our work prioritizes ethical care, responsible outcomes, and practical education for current and future horse owners.

Horse Rescue & Intake Program

Purpose

To provide safe intake and immediate care for horses affected by neglect, abuse, abandonment, or owner hardship.

Program Description

JD Farming Horse Rescue accepts horses in need and provides a secure environment where their condition, behavior, and care needs can be assessed. Horses receive proper nutrition, safe turnout, and basic care while next steps are determined.

When veterinary or farrier care is required, services are provided through licensed professionals.

Key Activities

  • Intake and assessment of at-risk horses

  • Safe shelter, nutrition, and daily care

  • Coordination with veterinarians and farriers as needed

Rehabilitation & Training Program

Purpose

To support the physical and emotional recovery of rescued horses and prepare them for safe adoption or long-term care.

Program Description

Many horses arrive fearful, unhandled, or lacking basic training. Rehabilitation focuses on humane handling, trust-building, and gradual conditioning based on each horse’s individual needs.

Training is conducted using low-stress, desensitization-based methods designed to help horses feel safe and confident. These methods may include halter training, groundwork, and exposure to common stimuli to reduce fear and anxiety.

Veterinary care is coordinated with Fayette County Veterinary Clinic in La Grange, Texas, where JD Farming Horse Rescue maintains a nonprofit account to support donated veterinary services.

Key Activities

  • Veterinary-guided care coordination

  • Nutritional support and conditioning

  • Gentle handling, groundwork, and halter training

  • Behavioral rehabilitation using humane techniques

Adoption & Lifelong Care Program

Purpose
To secure responsible, long-term outcomes for rescued horses.

Program Description

JD Farming Horse Rescue is adoption-focused, working to place horses into safe, appropriate homes whenever possible. Horses are matched with adopters based on temperament, experience level, and long-term suitability.

When adoption is not in the best interest of a horse, lifelong sanctuary care is provided.

Adoption fees help offset the cost of care and support the rescue of additional horses.

Key Activities

  • Screening and education of adopters

  • Responsible adoption placement

  • Lifelong sanctuary care for non-adoptable horses

Education & Community Outreach Program

Purpose
To promote humane treatment, responsible ownership, and proper care of horses through education and hands-on learning.

Program Description
JD Farming Horse Rescue places a strong emphasis on education as a preventative tool. The organization plans to host regular educational events and workshops for new and prospective horse owners.

These sessions are designed to teach basic horse care, safe handling, nutrition, and responsible ownership practices to reduce neglect and abandonment.

Educational outreach also occurs through one-on-one guidance with adopters and online platforms documenting the rescue’s work and property restoration.

Key Activities

  • Educational workshops and on-site learning events

  • One-on-one adopter education

  • Community outreach and awareness efforts
